Did you know that on August 20, 2004, 21 people squeezed into a Mini Cooper in Athens, Greece, setting a new world record.
How many people do you think you could get in your MINI?
According to the tuning house, the two versions of the MINI which will be modified, the Coupe and the Roadster, will get a carbon / Kevlar body kit, including new front and rear bumpers, revised side skirts, a ventilated engine hood, a carbon fiber roof, a prominent rear spoiler and a styling package, which is widening the car by 15 mm and it’s also reducing the weight by 30 kg or 66 lbs.
“Completely designed in-house by its designer from the UK office, the sleek and sporty Mini Coupe has turned into an extreme sports coupe that weight 30kg lighter and a power boost from 181hp to a staggering 250hp. To achieve this, Revozport team up with the engineering team at TARGA Racing whom is in charge of building the performance kit and the aerokit is complete built with carbon composite fibre with the latest curing method”, as RevoZport is saying in its official press release.
Power to the MINI Coupe Targa Raze is being provided by the same 1.6 liter engine, which has now been equipped with a larger intercooler, a titanium exhaust system, camshafts and a revised ECU, and the total output developed is now 250 HP (253 PS / 186 kW), 69 HP more than the standard version.

San Francisco, C.A. – August 20, 2012… At a press conference with San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, BMW Group Member of the Board Dr. Ian Robertson today announced the upcoming launch of ParkNow, an innovative mobile parking solution that is a joint venture with Urban Mobility, and provided new details about DriveNow, a unique premium car-sharing service which features a fleet of BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicles. San Francisco serves as the initial U.S. market for each service.
San Francisco is at the forefront of cities working to develop and implement innovative approaches to urban challenges, including traffic congestion and the need for smarter, greener parking systems. There are an estimated 505,000 vehicles in San Francisco, yet only 448,000 parking spaces available at any given time. On weekdays, the total vehicle population increases by approximately 35,000. An estimated one-third of all downtown traffic on weekdays is due to vehicles searching for a parking spot. "The BMW Group is more than a premium car company, it is also focused on developing and delivering new services to help meet the increasing need for flexible mobility solutions in our cities," said Dr. Robertson. "The premium car-sharing service DriveNow and parking solution ParkNow will help meet that demand in San Francisco and, ultimately, in other cities. Our introduction of these services in San Francisco represents BMW's commitment to encouraging the development of new mobility options that will reduce emissions and congestion and improve the quality of life for San Franciscans."Courtesy of BMW

SMOOTHNESS
With most things in life, you’ll be far more successful if you play it smooth, and the same holds true for performance driving where quick, jerky braking, steering, or accelerating can easily lead to a spin out. Though a MINI’s incredibly intelligent braking system with CBC and EBD will do everything in its power t prevent such a dramatic event from happening.
1. Friction Management – A critical lesson in Mastering the Asphalt Arts is friction and traction control. Think about a piece of paper (playing the role of your tires) sitting on a table with a glass of water (the road) on it. Yank the paper quickly and it will slip and slide right out. But pull the paper slowly, then gradually faster and the glass should stay on top, moving along as you pull. In both cases, the elements involved were the exact same. But the variable was the acceleration of the forces. As you can see, smooth and steady provides better traction, which translates into control and speed.
2. Weight Transfer – The second part of the friction/traction lesson is understanding weight transfer. The amount of traction you have at each wheel depends on how hard each tire is being pressed down onto the track. When you accelerate the weight in your vehicle transfers from the front to the back (think of someone popping a wheelie) which, in turn, means the traction will increase on back tires and decrease on your front tires. Braking moves the weight (and therefore the friction) from back to front. And when you corner, the weight will move from the tires on the inside to the tires on the outside turn. Internalize all of this, and you’ll soon have a great sense of how each of your actions affect the vehicle in different ways.
3. Smooth. Not Slow – Keep in mind, smooth doesn’t mean slow. You will still need to brake, steer, and accelerate quickly, but practice doing them with grace and precision.
4. Stay in Control – Remember that a big part of being smooth is staying in control. Don’t overstep the limits of your own driving ability or the handling abilities of the car. A MINI can do a lot of things, but overcoming the laws of physics isn’t one of them. So stay in command and enjoy yourself.

There may not be an Olympic sport involving automobiles (yet), but cars were featured prominently in the closing ceremonies of the 30th Olympic games in London last night. The event was more of a rock concert than a ceremony, with musical performances by everyone from chart-topping boy band One Direction to pop veteran George Michael to The Who. The stage on which the first batch of artists performed, however, was set with small scale versions of London's architectural landmarks, and to make the mini city look and feel more like the real thing, organizers filled the empty spaces in between with enough cars, lorries and mopeds to recreate one of London's infamous traffic jams.
The vehicles began the show wrapped in what appeared to be newspaper clippings, but when the cameras zoomed in, the paper turned out to be printed with passages from famous English literary figures. As the show went on, the wrappings were ripped off to reveal a motley mix of automobiles including Britain's most iconic machines from Mini, MG, Austin-Healey, Lotus and even a three-wheeled Reliant Robin, as well as Italian and German metal and an even a classic American car or two. The Spice Girls even reunited on the tops of five British black taxis. Later on, a trio of Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II Drophead Coupes drove British pop artists Jessie J, Tinie Tempah and Taio Cruz around the Olympic stadium like Mustangs in a parade. More interesting (to us, at least) than the performers in their backseats, these Rollers were each decked out with various trim pieces that commemorate the games in London, including a specially designed badge on their grilles that features the brand's iconic Spirit of Ecstasy flowing into the home country's flag. R-R claims this is the first time its cars have sported a new badge in the company's 108-year history. Unfortunately, unless you DVR'd the ceremonies, there's no way to rewatch them quite yet until NBC and the International Olympic Committee say it's OK, so we've assembled a gallery of images above that you can peruse to see how cars played a part in the closing ceremonies of the 30th Olympiad.Courtesy of Auto Blog
Oxford, England — BMW is set to intensify the premium small-car fight with arch-rivals Mercedes-Benz and Audi by adding two more models to the Mini lineup. News of the additional models, for which BMW has given no details, came as the automaker announced a $390-million investment plan for its U.K. operations.
The money will be spent on a trio of factories, including a push to expand capacity at the main Mini production facility in Oxford, England.
"This is to support the company's international growth strategy for the Mini brand with increasing volumes and up to 10 different models in the new lineup in the mid-term," said BMW in a statement on Monday.
The Mini range has expanded substantially since the launch of the three-door hatch in 2001, growing to include a four-seat cabriolet, the Clubman wagon, the five-door Countryman hatchback, the two-seat Mini Roadster and Coupe and most recently, the Clubvan, an upmarket delivery van based on the Clubman. Still to come is the Paceman, a larger three-door car that's a coupe-like cross of the Countryman and the three-door hatch. It's scheduled to appear later this year. A convertible version of that car could constitute another model, bringing the total to nine.
For the 10th model, BMW has previously considered a Mini smaller than the core three-door hatchback, unveiling a concept called the Rocketman at the 2011 Geneva Auto Show.
At just under 12 feet, the concept was barely longer than the 10 feet of the original 1959 Austin Mini, but BMW has subsequently said that the business case for a smaller car did not stack up.
However, the Rocketman will be shown at the 2012 Olympics in London, where BMW has a substantial sponsor's presence. There is no question that in marketing terms, if not profitability, a smaller Mini would make sense.
BMW has also said that it will not make a Mini any bigger than the Countryman. However, a proper small SUV crossover (the Countryman is available with four-wheel drive, but is not really seen as a small SUV) would likely be more profitable than a baby Mini, although there are no indications yet that BMW is considering such a model.
An SUV crossover could be based on the platform to be used by the third-generation BMW Mini due in 2014, which will share its all-new core with the next-generation BMW 1 Series. The decision to share platforms across these two models will do much to ensure that the Mini brand remains profitable. Meanwhile, BMW insiders say that the company's chassis department is striving to make this "the best front-drive chassis in the world."
Mini purists will note that in the latest spy shots of the 2014 Mini's interior, the central location for the speedometer has been abandoned. It was a dominant feature of both the 1959 original and the BMW-built models. A large round dial will remain, this time carrying only the infotainment display.
No. 55 BMW M3 GT wins Michelin Green X Challenge Woodcliff Lake, N.J.– August 4, 2012… Bill Auberlen and Jörg Müller drove the No. 55 BMW Team RLL M3 GT to a third place GT class finish in today's 2.45-hour American Le Mans Series Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge after starting the race from the pole position. The finish also netted the No. 55 M3 GT its second Michelin Green X Challenge trophy of the season. BMW Team RLL teammates Joey Hand and Dirk Müller finished fifth in the No. 56 M3 GT after starting from seventh.
The team's fourth podium finish of the season keeps BMW second in Manufacturer points, 20 points behind Chevrolet. Hand and Müller, the 2011 class driver co-champions, move back to second in Driver points. Auberlen and Jörg Müller hold onto sixth place. "With all the restrictions the series has placed upon us, and the freedoms they have given to the competition, we are just not fast enough," said Bobby Rahal, Team Principal. "There is an obvious imbalance evident in the last few races and I hope that the ALMS will do the right thing. When you know you don’t have the pace you have to rely on strategy and luck. This week the Corvette had an incident and we got lucky again. We need to get back to fair and equal footing and give these guys a run for their money."

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – July 12, 2012 2:00pm EDT… BMW takes the 2012 Concept Car of the Year Award with its i8 Concept Spyder. This award marks BMW's fourth competition as a category finalist and the brand's second visit to the awards podium at the eleventh annual North American Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards announced today. The Concept Car category recognizes those vehicles where passenger carrying is the primary intent.
The awards recognize those vehicles most likely to shape the future of the automobile industry. This year, more than two dozen jurors participated in a selection process that involved a total of 34 vehicles, each introduced to North America during this season’s auto shows in Los Angeles, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and New York. The awards are given to the best Production Preview Vehicle, Concept Car, Concept Truck, and Most Significant Concept Vehicle of each auto show season. To be eligible for the awards, a concept vehicle must make its North American debut during the current model year's auto show season. With the exception of those vehicles in the Production Preview category, qualified nominees must represent an advanced design and /or engineering concept, rather than being a show version of a current production model.Courtesy of BMW North America
